Sleep and sleeplessness ...What we need to know

Sleep is one of the most important life processes of our body. As such, a more recent study puts the stamp issue of how much sleep should sleep ....

How many hours of sleep needed to recover better energy consumed during the day? Theories on this issue are different. By the end of the last century, it was thought that 4 to 5 hours are enough, but the research that led to this conclusion were not convincing. While a more careful study was conducted by David Dinges, from Chronobiology Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania, who examined a dozen volunteers to see what effects would cause sleep deprivation. Along with his colleague, Hans van Dongen, Dinges, divided volunteers  into three groups according to the number of hours of sleep a day for two weeks, the group of four, seven and eight hours of sleep. During a day, the researchers conducted two psychomotor vigilance test sample of subjects considered reliable system to assess the shortcomings of sleep.

During this type of analysis, the sample (those volunteers who took part in the experiment) was placed in front of a computer for a few minutes, which was given the task to suppress the space button on the keyboard every time a number appeared on the screen. Over time, those who slept more then eight hours, showed a good standard, while groups of 4 to 6 hours of sleep worsen week after week. Dinges thus found that 8 hours of sleep is ideal and regenerating. Ultimately, a good sleep everyone was doing well, it is necessary to charge the body and mind with the energy required to meet the stress of every day life. Miguel Cervantes rightly said: "Blessed is he who invented sleep, cappuccino that covers all human thoughts, the food that removes hunger, water that quenches thirst, cold fire away, the currency with which you can buy everything, scale which equates king and the poor ".
